The Chronicle Celebrates National Mentoring Month 2026
January is National Mentoring Month! Founded by MENTOR in 2002, this month is a time to recognize the power of mentoring relationships and the people who make them possible. When mentoring is grounded in evidence and built on trust, consistency, and support, it can play a meaningful role in young people’s academic, social, and emotional development.
Research shows that quality matters. Well-designed programs and well-supported mentors are key to creating relationships that truly benefit youth. Now is the opportunity to celebrate mentors, practitioners, and researchers who are committed to doing mentoring well, and to reaffirm our shared commitment to practices that are informed by evidence and centered on lasting impact.
Be sure to check out MENTOR’s latest resources here, as well as our research highlights and stories throughout this month.
